How does Manychat work?
Manychat is a tool that allows you to move your audience from social media, straight to becoming a newsletter subscriber without constantly engaging. The hamster wheel of time spent on socials is exhausting, and you have so much on your plate as a business owner! Here’s how Manychat works:
- You post on social media.
- Once a follower comments on your post or Reel, Manychat sends a message to their DMs.
- In the Instagram DMs, Manychat can also ask for an email address.
- Once the follower types it in, Manychat can automatically add it to your email software, turning them into an email subscriber.
- You follow up with them using your email marketing strategies!

If you have multiple email opt ins, I highly, highly, highly recommend picking one email opt-in that you are just going to lean into with your Manychat service! Especially as you’re getting started with Manychat, do just one and then add more to your plate.

- Log into Manychat
- Select Ready-to-go-Templates
- Select Auto DM Link from Comments
- Choose one specific post or reel, or you can select all
- Add a Comment – input your “magic word”
- Type your message
- Input your link
- Optional: add automated responses to the comments
- Click “Go Live”
More Detailed How To Manychat Tutorial
Let’s take a look inside Manychat and I tried to reset my account to give you as bare bones scratch from possible. When you click Ready to Go templates, you’ll see that there are so many different templates you could use!
Click auto DM link from comments. This is the automation where if somebody comments a post, it will send you the link. You can choose any post or reel or you can select all. We’re gonna just do one specific one and you can see it gives you your feed.
You just pick the one that you want. I’m picking one that’s got an email opt-in attached to it, just like before. Then you’re gonna say add a comment and this is what people are going to type in order to get the link. Make sure that that is a unique word they wouldn’t just comment randomly. Then you’re going to send the message that they’re gonna get once they click go!
That’s just something that really helps me because I do have a ton of different opt-ins and having that visual available. It is so helpful. And then you put your button label. I always say learn more or download here, or click here for. And then I do like to add those replies in the comments underneath, and I try to make sure there is a question, so they can, see, oh, hey, I’m checking in on them.
Did you get that dm? Hopefully they go to their dms, see it, and either respond to me in the DM saying, yep, got it. Or they come back and comment. Both of those things help with the engagement and help strengthen our relationship. Not only, you know, like actual relationship, but also the relationship.
The algorithm for Instagram, just so that they understand like, yes, this is actually something that this person wants to see and hear more of and more from. So do a couple of different ones. They let you add more. They do give you automated ones to just start off with, if you wanted to do this very quickly, again, I like to do a question and I would recommend that.
So when you’re all done, you’re gonna click save or publish and you can kind of see what is this gonna look like? Check it out. But if you’re happy with it, just click publish and you are all good to go. And that’s your first MiniChat automation. Yay!
How To Use Manychat With a Scheduler
If you like to plan and batch your content ahead of time, same! Here’s what that process looks like:
- Plan content
- Create images/video
- Select unique keywords for ManyChat
- Schedule in system of choice
- As you schedule, put the keywords in the call to action for each post!

Okay, so how to incorporate all of this?
We want to be consistent. Here’s a few ways you can approach these strategies:
- Plan ahead and batch your content
- Make an opt-in day, for example: the 7th of every month
- You could always do a story when your email list goes out
- Pop a reminder on your calendar
- Consider one surface of Instagram each week of the month
- The first week of the month, share on your stories.
- The second week of the month, you’ve got a feed post.
- The third week of the month, you’re doing a reel.
- The fourth week you’re going live to talk about.
