Right before a sitewide sale, TeachersPayTeachers gives us (teacher authors) gift cards to give away to our audience. Maybe it’s your first time, or maybe you’ve felt like you could do it better next time so let’s chat GIVEAWAYS: dos, don’ts, and things to remember!

The Basics of Hosting a Giveaway
First, choose your prize. What will your entrants be winning? Make sure you decide ahead of time. Then, set your timeline. How long will the giveaway be open? How much time does your audience have to enter? Finally, choose how people will enter. Will they simply like a post on Instagram? Follow your TPT store? Tag a friend in a comment? Decide how your audience will enter a giveaway.
A few notes..
Remember, you need a way to select and contact your winner, so you can’t rely on TPT as an entry method. For example, you cannot pick someone from your sales within a period of time, because we have no way to let that person know they won, or deliver them the prize.
Another thing to remember is that your giveaway does not have to be complicated! It’s easy to get caught up in huge collaborations and want to work with others to get more eyes on the prize (and your store!) but it can also be a huge headache.
A Giveaway Checklist
Here’s a simple checklist for you as you’re setting up your giveaway!

- Choose your prize
- Decide if you’ll work alone or with a group of other teacher authors
- Decide what your audience will need to do to enter
- Set the end of the giveaway
- Make sure you know how you’ll select your winner – and have a way to contact them!
